Serious Straw Bale
Straw bale construction is a delightful form of natural, ecological building. But until the publication of Serious Straw Bale A Home Construction Guide for All Climates, it was assumed appropriate only for dry, arid climates. This book does not advocate universal use of straw bale, provides practical solutions to the challenges brought on by harsh climates. This is the most comprehensive, up-to-date guide to building with bales ever published. Learn how bale building technique now includes climates and locales once thought impossible. 371 pages, Paperback.

Building with Awareness In this beautifully done how-to DVD, director Ted Owens takes you into his straw bale home and shows you how to build a sustainable house from the ground up, offering detailed information on the design and construction of post-and-beam structures; passive heating, cooling and lighting; rubble trench foundations; rainwater cisterns; and PV systems. An excellent introduction, as well as in-depth instructional video, for anyone with even a passing interest in natural construction. 162 minutes, DVD.
